Steam cleaning, like we do here at The Grand Steam, uses hot water under pressure to rinse deep into carpet fibers, then sucks out dirt and water with a powerful vacuum. Steam cleaning provides a deeper clean and leave less residue.

How long do you have to stay off carpet after steam cleaning?

Depending on the time of year, it usually takes 6–12 hours for carpets to dry completely after steam cleaning. You can walk on them sooner with clean socks, but it’s best to avoid heavy traffic until they’re fully dry. Of course, here in Phoenix with our low humidity and high temperatures in the summer, it’s probably safe to lean closer to the 6 hours.

Where does the dirt go when you steam clean a carpet?

What’s the difference between steam cleaning and Chem-Dry?

Steam cleaning uses hot water extraction, while Chem-Dry uses a low-moisture carbonated solution. Chem-Dry dries faster but may not clean as deeply as steam in certain cases.

Will my carpets smell after steam cleaning?

Clean carpets should not smell. If there is any odor, it’s usually temporary and from dampness. If a bad smell remains, it might be due to deep pet stains or mildew — and we have treatments to address that.

Do I need to move furniture for carpet cleaning?

We recommend moving small and fragile items. We can clean around larger furniture.

Yes, steam cleaning is highly effective at removing many common stains — including food, drink spills, mud, and dirt tracked in from outside. The hot water and pressure help break up the stain, while the powerful suction lifts it out of the carpet fibers. For tougher or older stains, we usually apply a pre-treatment or spot treatment first to help loosen it before steam cleaning. While most stains come out completely, some deeply set or chemically altered stains (like dye or bleach) may require additional treatment or may be permanent.
